30 Before 30 – The Update

30 Before 30 - The Update cover

So if you read this blog regularly, you might remember a few months back I posted ‘30 BEFORE 30‘. Basically, it was a list of things I wanted to accomplish before my 30th birthday in April next year. With my birthday now being 6 months away, I thought it was worth checking the list to see where I’m at. So here, lovely readers, is 30 before 30 – the update…

1 Volunteer

So I’m yet to do any volunteering, so definitely need to find something. I want it to be worthwhile and something that I will really enjoy. Perhaps something involving animals would work for me.

2 Buy a camera and learn some photography skills

So I got the camera woohoo! However, I haven’t really got round to using it much, so really need to try to. Photography skills wise, I haven’t really developed much more other than experimenting a little with my blog and Insta pics. I’m sure there’s a free course I could do that would really benefit me.

3 Learn calligraphy and create awesome art work

So I’m definitely working on this! I got myself a few calligraphy books including this book from The Works. I’ve enjoyed experimenting and playing around with letters so far. I mentioned in the original post that I would love to make gifts for people using calligraphy and my aim is to try for Christmas. Check out some of my work over on my Instagram to see my progress so far.

4 Re-learn how to knit and make something

Not gonna lie, I absolutely haven’t even given this a thought! Again, maybe it is something I can do over the Christmas holidays. I would really love to be able to make a nice, cosy, chunky scarf!

5 Visit a new country

So I’m yet to do this! I was hoping to over the summer, but ended up returning to the beautiful Majorca. I had already been there once before so it doesn’t count. Perhaps I might take a birthday trip to somewhere new in 2018.

6 Have a social media break

So I definitely haven’t done this! I think it will be super hard to do, especially whilst still trying to grow this blog. Maybe I should just have a general internet break for a little while. Will have to see!

7 Get a tattoo

Yep, so totally not got any further with this, other than looking at a few designs! I’m a tad worried, because I’m hoping number 8 might happen in the not too distant future. Therefore, I don’t really want to risk it, just in case.

8 Start a family

Nothing to report yet, but let’s just see what the future holds!

9 Complete a random acts of kindness list

Whilst I haven’t done a list per se, I do try to make sure I do at least one kind thing daily for someone. It might be nice though to find a specific list to follow. I’m sure I can find one over on Pinterest, or perhaps be inspired to make my own!

10 Take a cooking course

So whilst I haven’t started a course, I have been doing a hell of a lot more cooking. I’m super proud of myself so far and hope to continue to improve. I haven’t given anyone food poisoning yet so that is a bonus!

11 Use my Polaroid camera

So I’ve been kind of productive in this one, by finding said Polaroid camera! However, I am yet to go ahead and use it. I guess I’m just waiting for a special occasion to capture some great snaps.

12 Donate to a charity shop

I have totally been doing this yay! I have donated quite a bit to the charity shop I was working with for the post for my charity shop haul and hope to continue to do so.

13 De-clutter

Whilst I haven’t read the book I mentioned in the original post, I did do quite a bit of sorting and organising over the summer. I’ll be sure to read the book when I get chance and put it into action.

14 Try a new food

I’m not sure if I’ve done this actually! Nothing springs to mind, but it may have happened. I’ll try to make sure I definitely do though before I turn 30.

15 Write a letter to myself to open in 10 years

I think this is something I’ll do just before my birthday.

16  Visit more places in UK

I’ve been to a few places over these past few months, but hope to get to more before April.

17 Do something that really scares me

There is something in the pipeline that excites but totally scares me! Will just have to see if it comes to anything, but I promise to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

18 Research family history

I’m yet to do anything with this but still want to do some research. I think it would be super interesting, and I’m sure my family would appreciate it too.

19 Learn how to do make up

I’m getting there bit by bit, but am still learning! I guess I’ll never be an expert but I definitely can give it my best.

20 Host events at home

We haven’t really hosted anything since writing the original post. However, plenty of big holidays are coming up so I’m sure we can arrange a few events!

21 Earn money from blogging

I’ve done a few paid posts over the past few months, but I’m so incredibly lucky to be sent some amazing free products from brands to review. I’m totally happy with that, so monetising my blog can be something that comes in the future.

22 Watch more films

I don’t think I have really watched any new films since the original post so I definitely need to get on with this! Leave me some inspiration fo what to watch in the comments.

23 Celebrate all of the holidays

Halloween is coming up later this month so I need to get organised and plan some nice things to do. I’ll be sure to share them with you on my social media and perhaps in a blog post too. And of course, Christmas is on the horizon, and I’m totally excited for it this year!

24 Learn how to meditate properly

It’s fair to say I’ve not done any meditation over the past few months, so this is still on my to-do list.

25 Do a 30 day challenge

I haven’t decided on a 30 day challenge yet but I’m sure I’ll spot one I fancy soon. Maybe I could tie it into the random acts of kindness one?

26 Learn how to make awesome videos and develop my YouTube channel

So I havent added any videos to my collection yet but I do have more subscribers woohoo! Make sure you do subscribe to see any I post over the coming months. I’ll be sure to subscribe back too 🙂

27 Beat my anxiety

So this is a funny one. I’m not sure I will ever ‘beat’ my anxiety. However, I do feel I am getting more to grips with it and finding ways to deal with it so that is definitely progress for me.

28 See a show at the theatre

I’ve not got anything booked yet, but my momma and I have discussed a few we fancy during the next couple of months. Hopefully we will get our hands on some tickets soon.

29 Do karaoke

Karaoke still hasn’t happened, perhaps I might do it over Christmas or in the run up to my birthday?!

30 Plan my 30th birthday party

Whilst I can’t go into full planning mode as it’s still a fair way off, I have been given a party some thought. I even have a secret Pinterest board! I will probably start planning it officially in the new year.

So this is how I’m getting on so far. Its pretty obvious to see that with most of these I still have quite a way to go. But it has definitely been good for me to review these and remind myself of what I want to do. I’m looking forward to the next 6 months!

Have you ever done anything similar to this? Is there anything you’d like to achieve before your next birthday? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

  1. This is a great list and I love this idea! There are so many of these I’d like to do too, like getting a tatoo (I want a little cross on my inner wrist) and developing my YouTube channel. Doing videos is something out of my comfort zone I’d like to start this year.

    1. Thank you! That sounds like a lovely tattoo idea. I’ll look out for them if you do!

  2. I like the idea of this list. It sounds like you have a lot of fun things you want to do. Top of my list is to see the Eiffel tower.

  3. I’m in my early 30s, but it is never too late to do some of these things! 🙂 I have anxiety as well and it is definitely something I want to get a better handle on.

    1. You’re so right! There doesn’t need to always be a special reason. Hope you manage that ?
